Jacksonville, Fla., lawyers are helping autistic children and their families by contributing to a non-profit called HEAL (Healing Every Autistic Life). Heal was founded in 2004 by three parents who have daughters with autism.
Led by Jacksonville Bar Association Past-President and current HEAL President, Alan Pickert, Jacksonville lawyers donated $17,500 for the HEAL Great Ponte Vedra Paddle for Autism.
“HEAL does such wonderful work in our local community that benefits so many people,” Alan Pickert says. “Many people don’t realize that since 2007, HEAL has raised over a million dollars to serve local families and individuals affected by autism. These funds are directed toward camps, educational programs, sports, the arts, and community projects solely for families on the First Coast.”
Pickert adds, “Unlike many other autism organizations that are based nationally, 100% of all proceeds raised by HEAL stays locally to benefit our neighbors, friends and others living in North Florida that have been impacted by autism.”
Attorneys in the area gave their time and money to this cause through the Great PV Paddle for HEAL or recent HEAL Valley of Dreams Gala and Golf, as well as raised funds online under the name of “LawyersForAutism.”
Autism affects 1 in every 91 children. More children are diagnosed with autism than childhood cancer, leukemia, and pediatric AIDS combined. You can find more information about HEAL at www.healautismnow.org.
